Conservation

olpejconserimgFrom February 2007, OPC has become the largest rhino sanctuary outside of South Africa. Covering nearly 100,000 acres on the Equator in Kenya's Laikipia region, it has the highest ratio of game-to-area of any park or reserve in Kenya. Rare breeds on the conservancy include 80 Black rhino, 9 white rhino, the extremely rare Grevy's zebra and Jackson's Hartebeest, which all feed with a fluctuating population of lion, elephant, buffalo, cheetah, leopard and plains game in full view of Mount Kenya.

The Ol Pejeta Boran stud breeds the famous Boran beef cattle, of which they have approximately 6,500, along with a small herd of the remarkable Ugandan Ankole cattle, which has unusually spectacular horns (and are usually more photographed than the wildlife!)

Working closely with the local communities, OPC funds projects such as schools and clinics from fundraising initiatives such as the 'Cricket in the Wild' tournament, now in it's third year in September 2008.
